The Junior Shooter Program is the first step in getting junior shooters involved with the SSPC.
JUNIOR SHOOTER PROGRAM
Juniors can obtain a firearm licence in Victoria when they are aged between 12 and 17 (inclusive)
Many Victorian high school-aged students participate in handgun target shooting and in order to get a junior firearm licence to participate in this sport, the junior will need to:
Have the written consent of a parent or guardian.
Arrange with an approved handgun target shooting club to receive instruction in using a handgun.
Become a member of an approved Victorian handgun target shooting club.
Apply to LRD for a Provisional Junior Handgun Licence.
Successfully complete the relevant Victorian Firearm Handgun Safety Awareness Course.
Submit a completed junior firearm licence application to the club for endorsement. The application must be endorsed by a nominated officer of the club. (The only exception to this is if you hold an interstate handgun licence for target shooting at the time you apply for your Victorian licence)
Remain a member of an approved handgun target shooting club.
You must only ever participate in handgun target shooting at an approved shooting range. Unlike adult handgun target shooters, juniors do not have to meet a minimum number of shoots or matches as a condition of their licence.

The Junior Shooter Program is designed for Junior shooters and their Parent / Legal Guardian who are interested in pistol shooting and looking to join our shooting club.
The program runs in conjunction with any of the Introduction to Handguns Courses and consists of 60 minutes of handgun and range theory followed by a 90 minutes of live fire exercises.

Course cost
$25.00 for each Junior if only they participate and parent/guardian just observe (through theory session and live range time).
All costs include ammunition, use of club guns and safety equipment as well as a hard copy of the Introduction to Handguns booklet for both attendees.
Once the Junior shooter and parent/guardian have successfully completed this course, you will be able to attend the range and shoot under supervision on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday nights and Saturday and Sunday Mornings before making a decision to join our Club. Please note that Monday and Wednesday nights are for practice and NORI.
Each of our Range Officers and Live Fire Supervisors are fully licence shooters themselves along with holding a Working With Childrens Check (WWCC) credential.

The Junior Introduction to Handguns Program is run from the Springvale Range with availability as listed on the booking page.
Please email info@sspc.org.au and request a Junior Introduction to Handguns Program discount password and advise on number of Junior attendees and Adult attendees.
You will then be sent respective passwords to secure the above pricing.
You will need to book and pay for your course before attending and courses are limited to 10 paired participants (5 x Juniors and 5 x Adults).

As part of the course, you will receive a copy of the Introduction to Handguns Book.
You can also Download HERE an electronic copy of the Notice of Receiveing Instruction (NORI) form. You are required to complete AND BRING the COMPLETED form with you TO THE COURSE.
What to bring with you to the course:
Please be there on time so that we can start on time!
Please bring 2 forms of ID, one with a photo (eg License and Medicare card)
as indicated on the NORI form.
Please bring your own safety glasses and earmuffs.
Be sure to wear comfortable clothing AND for safety, please do not wear low cut tops or open toed shoes.
You will not need to take any notes during the course as all material presented and discussed is in your Introduction to Handguns book.
